The Last Original Frank Lloyd Wright Homeowners

Chattanooga home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and built in 1952 using crab orchard stone and cypress. Both photos by Victoria Hely-Hutchinson for WSJ Magazine

CHATTANOOGA. We had to share this Wall Street Journal Magazine story with our readers who are fans of Frank Lloyd Wright. It seems there remain a few original owners of these distinct homes designed by the famous architect.

In 1949, one Tennessee couple, Gerte and Seamour Shavin, wrote a letter to Wright asking him for a referral. Wright wrote back that he would like to design their home in Chattanooga overlooking the Tennessee River, recalls Gerte. She is now 99.

Enjoy the Shavin’s story and meet others from across the country with original Wright designs. Each home is beautifully photographed by Victoria Hely-Hutchinson for the WSJ Magazine: Wall Street Journal: The Last Original Frank Lloyd Wright Owners.
