CHATTANOOGA. The Junior League of Chattanooga is hosting a stunning Designer Showhouse in June at a six-acre Missionary Ridge landmark estate that includes a 1925 home, poolside cabana and greenhouse. The opening is Saturday, June 4th, at 526 South Crest Road in Chattanooga, along the historic ridge corridor featuring scenic views of the city. Event chairs are Laurel Powell, Lesley Moore, and Jessica Storey of Chattanooga. Proceeds from the event support the Junior League leadership development programs that empower women to transform the community.

Chattanooga’s designers who have been adding the final touches to these historic rooms include: Laurel Powell, Robin Praino, Jodi Brewer, Tiffany Anich with Southern Abode, Kevin Vaughn, Mona Ahmad with Zoe’s Interior Designs, Kim Lemmon, Michelle Workman, Martha Yessick, Jackie Howard & Daniel Waddell with Scarlett’s Cabinetry, and Eda Walldorf with Green & Lofty.

A GATSBY AFFAIR party
Friday, June 3
The grand event begins with
A Gatsby Affair high-style party on the eve of the opening, from 7 to 10:30 p.m., Friday, June 3, capturing the revelry of Prohibition and The Jazz Age. The era highlighted in the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, The Great Gatsby, is a great fit, as the novel was published the same year the Showhouse was built, 1925.

A Gatsby Affair guests are encouraged to dress for the period for the June 3 party, so we thought the following history of 20s fashion might give you some fun inspiration as you plan: Roaring Twenties Fashion. Expect to see the long-waisted 1920s Flapper dresses, bobbed hair framed by cloche hats, and an emphasis on silk, rayon, and argyle stockings, head dressing that evokes the discovery of King Tut’s tomb with Egyptian flair, dresses with silk flowers, and men in suits that set the style we think of still today as dapper and dashing. In other words, dress in your best Gatsby or modern twist on the era. Tickets are available for the Gatsby event at jlcshowhouse.com.
