Architectural firm Cogent Studios has an active portfolio of landmark projects underway in Tennessee. They designed the popular eatery and bar Clydes on Church that opened in March in downtown Nashville. We wanted to share another project of Cogent’s that caught our eye, or maybe our ear. Songbirds will be a new performance space and lounge inside the Chattanooga Choo-Choo, a landmark made world-famous through music, specifically Glenn Miller’s 1940s swing tune. The attraction is designed to also house rare vintage guitars, as many as 185 guitars with a rotating exhibit. According to the article in nooga.com, patrons will be able to play some of the vintage treasures. Currently under construction, this 7,500-square-foot project at the vintage train station features lovey windows and the architects are showcasing the riveted steel beams and columns for the first time, as shown in the architectural rendering. Songbirds will add to the thriving music scene at the Southern landmark that already houses the popular Track 29 and more intimate Revelry Room venues. We think Songbirds and the repurposing of the landmark Chattanooga Choo-Choo is a model worth watching unfold in the region ….and certainly visiting.

Elizabeth, we heard back from Songbirds’ team that they will open this fall (2016), but an exact date has not been set. They are in construction mode.
