Don’t jump the gun. People go shopping all the time, who saw a photo in a magazine that they loved. Usually it’s the color that’s drawn them in. They invest in flower arrangements or accessories or furnishings and three months later they’re unhappy.

Updating a look is inevitable, you just don’t want to make a mistake when you’re spending money.  When you’re wanting to change colors, follow these three steps.

1. Get as many sample color swatches as you like and take them all home. Spend a few weeks looking at them and eliminating ones that don’t speak to you.

2. Choose the one or two colors that you continually navigate back to.

3. Buy one accessory in that color, like candles, a throw pillow or an area rug, and live with it before investing in more items.
